Leaping Salmon at Buchanty Spout

This time of year is when salmon are heading up rivers and a prime place to get really close to salmon jumping up waterfalls in Perthshire is at Buchanty Spout which is on a back road the B8063 which is straightforward to get to from Bankfoot, if in doubt I'll show you on a map.  There must have been plenty of people out viewing at the weekend as the footpaths were a bit of a mud bath.

Great place, great views and you could easily sit and watch the waterfalls and lose complete track of time.  Very tricky taking photos as I was always too slow, but got a few.  I took a video as well which you can view .here

The Jacobite Steam Train

On Wednesday we had booked to go on the Jacobite Steam Train with West Coast Railways and thank goodness we had a reasonably dry day.  The train travels to Mallaig stopping at Glenfinnan and Arisaig before arriving in Mallaig for a stop before returning to Fort William.  If you ever get the opportunity to take this trip I highly recommend it, not just for the amazing scenery but to see the pleasure an old steam train gives to both young and old alike.

Scenes from my wee holiday

The Nevis Range, it had been snowing.
The Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge
 Fort Augustus
 Urquhart Castle
 Castle Stalker
 Loch Leven at Kinlochleven
Waterfall at Glencoe

Rather unfortunately we must have got the worst weather possible for out trip, but still wonderful to get out and about in Scotland.

Scenes around Loch Tay and Killin

 Loch Tay
 The Crannog

The wonderful Falls of Dochart at Killin.

I came back yesterday from a few day's over the West Coast and on Monday we travelled via Kenmore and Killin to the main route up to Fort William.  The Falls of Dochart are a spectacular sight to view.

Shortlisted for two awards

Gilmore House is extremely delighted to announce that they have been shortlisted in the 'Customer Service Award'  category for this years Perthshire Chamber of Commerce Star Awards.  We were informed of the decision on Thursday and I have to undertake a final interview.

On Friday Gilmore House was also informed that they have been shortlisted in the 'Local Business Category' for the Big Tree Country Awards, so super duper delighted.

Vintage Tractor Ploughing Match

Was lucky enough to catch the tail-end of a ploughing match today with vintage tractors which takes place every year in Blairgowrie around this time.

Loch of Clunie, Blairgowrie, Perthshire

As it was such a beautiful October day today I took the short trip, less than 10 minute drive, along to Clunie Loch.   We parked up at the roadside first for a few photos before continuing around to Clunie Church.

The remains of Clunie Castle can be seen on the small island (crannog), it was a tower house for the Bishops of Dunkeld.

It is easy to park down by the Church and worth having a look around at the ancient tombstones.

 Perfect place for a picnic.

Couldn't have asked for a better day to take photographs.
